Slide (colour); the charge onto their ceremonial ground by decorated dancers of the two clans paired as Ngunzka at the climax to their Pig Festival. The front of the main body of the charge is headed by spearmen wearing cassowary headdresses; behind them is the bulk of their clansmen, visible only from the mass of their Princess Stephanie bird of paradise headdresses. The charge circles the Mond post and the Bolyim cult house (the thatched corner of which is just visible on the left), around which women are seated with sweet potato leaves in their hair. Spectators watch from the platforms erected around the ceremonial ground. Photograph taken January 13th 1980 at Kombulno, one of Komblo tribe’s ceremonial grounds, Wahgi Valley, Papua New Guinea.
