This photograph was taken by George Rose in 1907 for his series The Rose Stereographs. Rose travelled to New Guinea and Solomon Islands in the Burns Philp steamship Makambo on a five week round trip from Sydney. (see R. Blum 2008 George Rose: Australia's master stereographer.)
