This image was taken by Johannes Lindt on the 1885 British expedition of annexation led by Sir Peter Scratchley. Lindt was official photographer for the expedition. The image was then collected by Reverend James Chalmers of the London Missionary Society, who established a mission post in Suau, Papua New Guinea in 1887. The number and caption on the image correspond to Chalmers own collecting system.
