- This photograph was made by John Watt Beattie in 1896 on a visit to the Melanesian Mission base of St Barnabas at Kingston on Norfolk Island. It was listed in his Pacific Islands catalalogue with his 1906 photos from a tour of the Melanesian Mission ship Southern Cross through Vanuatu and Solomon Islands. The catalogue is published by Project Canterbury at www.anglicanhistory.org/oceania/beattie. When acquired by the British Museum, these photographs and the copy negatives made from them were catalogued in PicDoc93.
