Postcard printed with a photograph (colour) from an album; group of Mendi men and women from the Southern Highlands, standing, wearing their ceremonial costumes; three women, standing in the foreground, wearing feather headdresses in a cylinder shape, with shell ornaments on their head and on their chests, shell necklaces covering their necks, plant fibre hoops around their waists, their faces painted in red, yellow and white stripes; the men are standing behind, wearing similar headdresses, and plant fibre cloth wraps, but have their bodies and faces painted white and are carrying bows and arrows; Goroka, Papua New Guinea.

The staging of the Goroka Show started in 1957 at the Independence Park opposite the Goroka Main Market. First organised by Australian Kiaps. Kiaps from each district built their own traditional round houses to display their culture and brought singsing groups to perform. In total around 29 languages and socieities attend. It is a national event in Papua New Guinea calandar but has become more of a tourist event. It is also known as the Eastern Highlands Cultural Show. It is a yearly event which always take place near the 16th September - Independence Day. See www.gorokashow.com

- Katessa Schlosser donated this collection of postcards depicting masks, headdresses and ceremonial costumes in Papua New Guinea on the 15th February 2001. The majority of the postcards were photographed by Katesa Schlosser, with five postcards photographed by Holger Langhagen.
