The shadow puppet in this scene is used to depict a hangman and or gypsy, see Eu-F.T.-6350. The design of the shadow puppet, seems to have been designed to originally depict an African man, possibly a slave, wearing a large earring or ear plug, however there is no documentation to support this theory.
