Probably derive from the work of an official photographer travelling with the Governor-General of Canada on a tour up the West Coast of Vancouver Island in 1929 in the ship Princess Norah. Lord Willingdon was the uncle of Mrs Egerton; she was in the party and is included in Am,B50.4.

Context: the totem pole in the background in this photograph dates from 1929, when it was given to Lord Willingdon by Captain Jack, chief of the Mowachaht-Muchalaht band. Lord Willingdon visited Yuquot on the occasion of the Governor-General's visit. Lord Willingdon, upon receiving the pole, gave it back to the village. In 1993 the pole was toppled by wind.
Production: It is thought that the Asahel Curtis is very likely the photographer who took this photograph, because one other photograph in this series (AM,B50.5, photograph of Joseph John) is positively identified as being photographed by him; he context and time period also make this likely.
