Curator's comments
The Townley hoard has been in the British Museum since the early nineteenth century and is said to have been associated with the bronze patera 2011,8046.1. The provenance of the hoard is unknown but it is likely to have been British from the presence of coins of Carausius in the hoard. Listed in Robertson 2000, p.151 hoard no. 687.
