- Brown 1980 states:
Sir John Thomas Duckworth, first baronet (1748-1817). Born at Leatherhead 28th February, 1748, a distinguished naval officer, who, as captain of the 'Orion', shared in the victory of the 1st June, 1794. When he was a Vice-Admiral, he defeated a French fleet, near Ocoa Bay in 1806; created a Baronet in 1813 and appointed Commander-in-Chief at Plymouth in 1815.
