- Brown 1980 states:
One of Mudie's National Medals (see Brown 1 p256.1057) issued in 1820. Examples of this medal are believed to have been struck in gold but no specimen has been met with.
The sovereignty of these islands passed to Britain by the Treaty of Paris in November 1815. They were formed into an independent state under the protection of Great Britain and Sir Thomas Maitland was appointed Lord High Commissioner. The medal was probably struck in 1818 since it was published in the 'Gentleman's Magazine' for that year; vol. II, p. 253.
