- Curator's comments
- Brown 1980 states:
This is a uniface coppered white metal trial piece of the obverse of this piece. The bust is somewhat smaller, there is a button above of the lapel of the jacket and the left hand end of the ribbon is not rolled over. The ribbon is inscribed DIED AT SOHO . M . 180- AGED- 00 Ys. O . Ms ODs. It is possible that these medals were restruck after Küchler's death. See J. G. Pollard, Matthew Boulton and Conrad Heinrich Küchler, 'Numismatic Chronicle', 1970, pp. 310-11, No. 33 and pp. 314-16. See alsoBrown 1 p161.659.
See registration no. M.5335 for an example with the reverse.
