- Brown 1980 states:
Alexander Hood, 1st Viscount Bridport (1724-1814) defeated a French squadron off Port L'Orient capturing three sail of the line. In a report to the Admiralty from the 'Royal George' dated June 24th, the three ships are named as the 'Alexander, Le Formidable' and 'Le Tigre'. A report of the event is to be found in the 'Gentleman's Magazine' for July 1795 pp. 603 and 604.
