Struck bronze medal. (whole)

France to right, a woman with flowing hair, wearing drapery and the Cap of Liberty, a cockerel ornament hanging from her neck, holds in her left hand an oak branch and a flag which flutters behind her, while her right hand rests on the the shoulder of the French Army, a woman wearing a breastplate, helmet, skirt, cloak and boots, a flat satchel hanging from her waist, holding a sword in her hands, both standing on a rocky ledge defying Germany, an eagle in the foreground to left, wearing a crown and holding a sword, its wings fluttering, with to right, the coat-of-arms of Verdun and those of the French Republic inscribed 'FR', amongst ivy; in the background, a view of Verdun. Three roundels with the portrait heads of General Pétain, General Nivelle and General Curières de Castelnau, each inscribed with their names, set against a laurel wreath with the Légion d'Honneur and the Croix de Guerre medals attached on rings to one of the stems. (reverse)
