Mazerolle's theory that this was the medal modelled from life by Dupré in 1607 (see 1) is open to the objection that, judging by the portrait alone, this piece would seem to date from immediately before Dupré left France for Italy in 1612, when Louis was ten or eleven. A similar portrait by Claude Frémy in the Louvre (see 4) is dated 1611.
