This example of the medal has been extensively worked by hand. This is not typical of Dupré's work and it is not clear whether or not the chasing was done by him. The condition of the parts of the medal which have not been reworked and the diameter of the piece are however evidence that, whether or not the chasing is contemporary, the cast itself is by Dupré.
Marcantonio Memmo (1536-1615) was elected Doge on 24 July 1612 (see 2). His election was followed by elaborate celebrations and the distribution of quantities of largesse. It is possible that Dupré was called to Venice from Mantua immediately after the election. In any case the medal must date from the last five months of the year.
