A, probably eighteenth century, after cast. The reverse refers to the arms of the family (three saws) and the perseverance of the man.
The medal must date from after 1611 when de Cossé (d. 1621) was made a duke and a peer (he had been a Maréchal de France since 1594).
Close in size and fabric to the medals of Henri de Foix and Henri de Rohan (see registration nos. G3,IP.1138 and G3,FrM.877).
