Notes:
Obverse and reverse apparently unpublished. The portrait is similar to that on a piéfort d'argent of the same year (see 3), which is found combined with a similar reverse (see 1). For similar pieces see TN Méd. Fr. pl. XXII no. 9 and Mazerolle, II nos. 250, 255. The medal is attributed to Pillon partly on the basis of the similarity of the portrait to that on the coronation pieces and partly because of the outstandingly skilful modelling of the reverse. This is related to a marble medallion in the Louvre, perhaps after the medals (see 2). The identification of Henri with Alexander may have been suggested by the fact that he was called Alexandre as a boy.
