- Medallic Illustrations 2, published in 1885, states:
Rare.
This is the finest of the Culloden medals; it was executed by Richard Yeo, afterwards the chief engraver of the Mint. The type of the reverse was probably suggested by Roman coins. Specimens in silver (registration no. M.8529) were sold at a guinea each, and in copper (registration no. M.8528) at half a guinea. Those in gold (registration no. G3,EM.18) were sold for two guineas more than the value of the metal. (See ‘The London Gazette’, 3-7 Feb. 1746 [O. S.].)
See Cochran-Patrick, R. W., ‘Catalogue of the Medals of Scotland etc.’, Edinburgh, 1884, Pl. xv, 4.
