- Curator's comments
- Donor's note, 5 March 2018 : "I am just back from a 4-week trip to Bangkok, Kunming, Hongkong and Phnom Penh. As for hell notes I was very successful, I could find about 650 different ones that were new to me! Kunming and Phnom Penh are paradises for hell notes. // I include here the most interesting ones. The notes with vertical format are from Kunming. // The notes imitating Thai banknotes with portrait of King Bhumiphol are most interesting. I previously did not know that such notes exist. They are produced locally in Cambodia. Also US$ notes and Hongkong notes are imitated. - In Thailand it would be against the law to burn (hell) notes with portrait of King Bhumiphol. // As for hell notes in Phnom Penh about 50% are printed locally, a few are imported from Thailand and Vietnam, many are from China."
