- Curator's comments
- Two coins from different obverse dies are known to have been struck from this die: a) Royal Swedish Coin Cabinet, Stockholm 17767/101 (SCBI 11 Stockholm 68; b) Lockett (English IV) sale, Glendining 26 April 1960, lot 3866.
A reverse die of Cnut's Short Cross type of the Norwich mint, moneyer Thurulfr (M. D. O'Hara collection), from the same site was also found at Crayford, Kent, on a different occasion in 1989. The four dies were probably dumped in the early medieval period on the Thames waterfront, brought in spoil from the London die-making workshop almost certainly located in the vicinity.
