- The example catalogued by Maier is dated 1901.
The nespaper 'Le Gaulois', founded in 1868, organised competitions for its readers in order to increase its sales. In 1901, there was a 'Concours d'éventails' to colour a fan designed by Madeleine Lemaire, with regualtions presented on 2 July 1901. As a result of the huge response to thiis competition, the paper organised the 'Concours Sévigné', with a closing date of 5 October 1901, for a letter to be written on a given topic. This medal by Saint-Marceaux was distributed to 500 of the participants, along with other prizes. The obverse of the medal shows the themes of both competitions.
In 1902, another competition was held, on the topic, "L'Art de La Femme", in which the medal was distributed to 600 participants.
