- Curator's comments
- Silver taels of this type were struck by the French in Hanoi between 1943-1944. Many imitations exist. For further reading, see Francois Thierry's articles in the Bulletin de la Societe Francaise de Numismatique in the 1990s, eg "L'origine des pieces au caractere fu" (BSFN no. 41, Jan 1986, pp. 6-9) and ''Nouvelles frappes du tael au cerf 'aux cornes longues'" (co-authored with Tran Minh Dao, BSFN no. 49/3, March 1994, pp,. 758-759).
