Jean Dorat (c. 1508-1588) came from Limoges, his birthplace, to Paris c. 1540.
There he became tutor to J.-A. de Baïf (see registration no. 1894,0602.4) and later head of the Collège Coqueret where his pupils included, besides Baïf, Ronsard and Joachim de Bellay. He was himself a prolific poet.
