Napoleon III, visiting the Hôtel-Dieu hospital during the cholera outbreak of 1865, stands at the bedside of a patient, holding his hand, his hat held in his free hand, to right a doctor and to left a nun with hands clasped in prayer; a crown and scroll at the top, an oak branch in the exergue. (obverse)

Empress Eugénie, visiting the Hospice Beaujon during the 1865 cholera outbreak, holds the hand of a woman lying in bed, while to left a nun supports the patient's head with one hand, holding out the other in a gesture, to right another nun watches with hands clasped, an oil lamp and a cup next to her on a stand; at the top, a laurel branch in the exergue. (reverse)
