From C.C. Vermeule, "Japanese Coins in the British Museum, (part 1)", Numismatic Chronicle 1954, p. 192:
"Japanese coinage of the modern period (1870 to date). 10 yen: The collection includes a proof specimen of the Meiji 3 (1870) gold 10 yen, which is listed as exceptionally rare and unlocated in Japanese collections (Pl.XIV, 9). The diameter of the die is 30 mm. Another slightly less well preserved specimen was Lot 1369 in The Palace Collections of Egypt, Sotheby Sale of 24 February-7 march 1954; it is now in the possession of Messrs. A.H. Baldwin & Sons Ltd., London."
