Curator's comments
The cippus, set up in Rome's Regio VII, records Augustus' generosity in making special contributions to the public treasury in order to help finance the restoration of the public roads. Work on the Via Flaminia was undertaken entirely at his expense, as it was necessary to make the route suitable for the frequent passage of armies
