Curator's comments: Published PDF date : Qing Qianlong 1736-1795; Room 95 label text: PDF B678 Snuff jar with the Eight Horses of Mu Wang Jesuit missionaries residing within the Forbidden City brought with them Western technologies such as enamelling glass and introduced Western habits such as sniffing snuff (powdered tobacco flavoured with aromatic substances). By the reign of the emperor Kangxi (AD 1662–1722), taking snuff had become an imperial habit. Chinese craftsmen revelled in the production of miniature works of art and the tiny snuff-bottle form provided a means to demonstrate their skills. The base has a four-character underglaze blue Qianlong reign mark Porcelain with underglaze cobalt-blue decoration Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province 江西省, 景德鎮 Qing dynasty, Qianlong mark and period, AD 1736–1795; PDF B678 周穆王八駿圖鼻煙壺基督傳教士進入紫禁城，不僅帶來了西方的科技，如玻璃胎畫琺瑯，也傳入了西式的習慣，比如嗅鼻煙（混合芳香物的煙草粉末）。攜帶鼻煙到康熙朝（1662-1722年在位）成為皇室的習慣。中國工匠著迷於微型藝術品的創作，而鼻煙壺的小器形恰是展示其技藝的好平臺。外底署青花四字乾隆年款。瓷器，青花江西省景德鎮清代，乾隆，乾隆款，1736–1795年
