Room 95 label text: PDF A668 Blue-and-white stem cup with flying horses Inside this stem cup is painted in underglaze blue with flying horses, galloping around a central conch shell. The design of this stem cup is loosely based on an early fifteenth century design. Whereas the Xuande examples are generally painted with different mythical sea creatures, the sixteenth century examples tend to repeat motifs. So here the flying horse is repeated four times.
