Description
Porcelain saucer with rounded cavetto and flattened rim. There is a scene of the demolition of Rotterdam during riots in 1690 in underglaze cobalt blue in the centre, and four cartouches containing stylised fruits and flowers against a patterned ground on the cavetto. There are four auspicious motifs on back. A set with cup PDF 646.

Room 95 label text: PDF 647 Blue-and-white saucer showing the Rotterdam riots Sir Percival David bought very little European market export ware. This small saucer and its matching cup (PDF 646) are painted with a scene copied from a European print showing the demolition of Rotterdam during riots of 1690.
