Bowl with crackled celadon glaze
Sir Percival David purchased this bowl from the Alexander collection. William Cleverley Alexander (AD 1840–1916) was a wealthy banker and a patron of Whistler who also collected Chinese ceramics. Song ceramics became popular among European collectors in the early twentieth century and thus Alexander was considered to be a modern collector.
