- Curator's comments
- This compelling small Inari (fox spirit) figure possibly adorned a small shrine and was part of a pair. The eyes are left unglazed, as is the base. The maker's mark is somewhat unusually stamped on both the right and left sides of the neck. The ears have been repaired. The figure was made in a mould and articulated by hand while still leather-hard but before drying. A porcelain base was added separately. The stopper on the top of the head is in the form of a jewel and is made of porcelain. Franks annotated the sticker on the base with 'Porcelain Colln,' indicating the work was initially in his private collection. (NCR, 2017)
