Jacket; part of girl's festival costume As.1998.1.332 to 333. Base outer cloth on front and sleeves of hand-woven cotton in close tabby weave, all dyed in deep maroon red with black tinge. Lining of hand-spun, hand-woven cotton dyed indigo to mid blue. Decoration in separate panels sewn onto shoulders, sleeves, neck and fronts and bottom and side slits. Shoulders have two separate strips of dark silk satin embroidered in silk over paper cuts in floral and spiral motifs, and edged with white couched cord. These two strips are then edges with narrow strip of folded silk and a strip of lilac silk satin on which are applied four narrow hand-made silk braids of green, red and white strips. Sleeves have similar bands of embroidery, also band of woven silk in mostly blue and black with diamonds of red, blue, green and yellow with spirals. Neck and front facing have similar design to sleeves. Bottom edged with silk ribbon.
