Pair of gaiters; from married woman's market day costume As.1998.1.246 to 250 a & b. Base cloth on lower part of hand-spun, hand-woven cotton dyed dark indigo with sheen; upper cloth of unbleached calico. Constructed as a tube made of upper and lower parts sewn together. Decorated in bands: i) unbleached calico; ii) supplementary weft pattern in acrylic wool with an edge of shallow 'V' shapes cut out; iii) shiny blue bought cloth; iv) band woven as ii); v) binding of wax resist.
