Jacket; part of married woman's festival costume As.1998.1.217 to 221. Consists of outer and inner jacket attached at main fastening. Base cloth of outer jacket in hand-woven cotton, dyed indigo to almost black. Fastens at neck with large hollow 'silver' metal buttons and twisted rings, three buttons below arm. Decoration at top side-opening of yellow cotton bought ribbon, hand-embroidered. Imagery of birds and butterflies in bright green, deep blue, pink and maroon. Sleeve cuffs have extra band of indigo dyed cloth cut on the bias with multi-coloured braid sewn on top; and plain bought blue cloth and two patterned pieces of black on pale blue; and green, white and yellow on red ground. Inner jacket has base cloth of mid-blue manufactured cotton, with no decoration.
