Skirt, to be worn as part of outfit As.1998.14 to 17. Patchworked and pleated, with pleats tacked into place. Base cloth: lower part cotton, hand-spun and woven, dyed indigo and heavily stiffened, forming base for decorative patchwork. Upper part manufactured cotton dyed black; waistband and ties of undyed manufactured cotton. Decoration of lower section covered by patchwork with two main piecing designs: i) small squares alternating with squares formed of four right-angled triangles; ii) 3 units, one a large square, two with a design in resist of black over blue and a woven strip. All the complete squares are specially embroidered, some directly in blue or green silk, some have cutaway cloth designs outlined with couching threads. Colours very bright against dark, with red silk standing out.

- Text from Corrigan 2001: 35: Huishui county, Qiannan prefecture. Female skirt. Pleated skirt with 45cm deep patchwork band. The cloth of the lower section is handwoven cotton, dyed with indigo. It is stiffened and forms the base of the patchwork. the upper part is manufactured cotton dyed black, with an undyed waistband. All the complete squares are embroidered, some directly on silk while others have cutaway cloth designs outlined with couching threads.
