Skirt; part of woman's wedding costume As.1998.1.131 to 135. Constructed in three pleated sections with narrow waistband which extends as ties. First section consists of band of bright blue manufactured cotton cloth tightly pleated with three white stitching lines; the middle section consists of a band of manufactured cotton with two draw strings holding pleats; bottom section consists of two layers of hand-woven ramie with selvedges lying open at hem, with two drawstrings at top and bottom. Decorated on middle section with wax-resist patterns in horizontal lines with geometric motifs in between. The bottom section has deocration of applied bands of red, white and pink manufactured cotton in blocks; in between are blocks of smaller squares - alternating applied cloth and cross-stitch embroidery. The embroidery is a pattern of crosses within a square, with silk thread in red, orange and white.
