'Ceremonial cover or kerchief (rumal). Used to cover a gift of food or goods presented at marriage or another occasion. Probably Muslim because of the green colour which is special to Muslims: however the peacocks represented do indicate a Hindu origin because under Islam representation of living forms is prohibited. The truth is probably that these are recent converts. We find in Persia that tribal rugs often feature birds and other figures.'
