A monk's mat. Rectangular in shape and made of twill woven vegetal fibre (split bamboo?). A 10 cms wide red tabby cotton cloth border stitched to front, extending 2.5 cms on reverse. Towards each corner is a triangular piece of patterned woven cotton cloth; red/blue stylized floral patterning on a natural cream tabby ground; worked in supplementary weft, 'khit'. An inner strip of red tabby cotton cloth ensures the patterned cloth is bordered on all three sides. Unused?
