- Curator's comments
- Large Collections Register: 'Vegetable fibre plaited basket, of coarse strips, with carrier of bamboo strips. "Dhatti" [As1933,0715.164.a-e], apparatus for hunting at night. The pole [d] is carried across the shoulder; to the flat end is attached the apparatus (b); on the platform of this is placed the pot (a) with a fire kindled inside; the winnowing fan shades the bearer's eyes. This is balanced at the other end of the pole by the basket (c) filled with sticks for the fire. The light, together with the noise made by the 'chura' (e), attracts hares and other small game, which are killed by a second Gond with a stick. See list for description, also photograph and drawings.'
