- Curator's comments
- The masks donated by Nevill have possibly been varnished after collection, as it is unlikely that the makers would have had access to European paints and varnishes, and occasionally the natural colours show through. The masks are probably unused as they receive considerable wear in performances, especially around the string-holes. (Comments taken from John Donne during visits on 1st December 1976 and 17th January 1977.)
