musical instrument(Sarangi)
- Museum number

- Description
-
Sarangi made of reddish-brown wood with thirteen pegs in two rows along one side of the bridge, and two large pegs (one on each side). The pegs appear to have small circles of ivory (or pale wood?) inserted into the end tips of them. At the very top of the sarangi, are two holes through which a twisted length of fibre (vegetable or animal?) is tied and knotted. This is the same material as the strings.
The sound box (ripped towards the end of the instrument) is covered in leather. Green (paint?) all around the edge of the leather where it was attached to the sarangi.
Two twisted strings are still in place, and a third is attached at only one end.
Two rows of incised lines forming pattern around side panels of instrument.
