- Curator's comments
- 'Meiyo jinsei roku' was performed at the Ichimura Theatre in Edo, 7th month 1852, a dramatized version of Ao to Fujitsuna moryô an (1811-12)—a serialized novel by Kyokutei Bakin, telling a mystery story based on public lawsuits in Japan and China—combined with stories about the verdicts of magistrate Ôka Tadasuke (1677-1752), appointed by Yoshimune and known for his fairness and impartiality.
