Curator's comments
The top fan is made of cypress (hiōgi); the middle one, mostly folded, has a gold moon against a silver background; and the bottom one, fully open, has a red sun against a metallic background. Fourteen poems are printed above. Authors include the kabuki actors Kigan 鬼丸 (Asao Kuzaemon I, 1758-1824), Koroku 小ろく (Arashi Koroku IV, 1783-1826) and Rikan 璃寛 (Arashi Rikan II, 1788-1837).
