- Curator's comments
- The stories depicted on the brush pot are likely from Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, published in 1740. On side showing a horse and cart under a tree is probably the story of Xiao Mei, a fairy fox, who is holding a baby and sadly departed from her husband, Wang Muzhen. The other side probably represents the love story of the young scholar Zhang Hongjian and a fairy fox Shun Hua.
