- Description
-
Small bronze sculpture of a crowned female deity. She is seated on a single lotus throne, with her right leg pendant; on her left thigh she holds a child. Her right hand rests on her right thigh and shows the ?varadamudra (the palm of the hand is now reduced due either to wear or to damage so this identification cannot be certain). The base is rectangular and with legs. At her pendant right foot is a kneeling figure, perhaps be the donor (maybe holding something to the chest with the right hand). Immediately above is an extension to the right of the base with on it a pile of circular offerings, pinda. Behind the knee of her right leg is a standing bovine, probably a cow. She is nimbate, the oval halo edged with flames. At the top of the halo is a recessed space that might have held a gem, now empty. The face of the goddess has been worn through the touching of many devotees.
She is most likely to be Jain goddess, but the precise identification has not yet been established.
