Curator's comments
This surimono-like actor print of Kitsusaburo II (later Rikan II) was part of the campaign to promote him as the heir to Rikan I. Ashiyuki follows quite closely one of his own memorial images of Rikan I in the same role in the album Kikkojo. The poems are by Kitsusaburo using the pseudonym Rikaku and Ashiyuki. (Gerstle 2005, cat. 247).
