Woodblock diptych print, oban tate-e. A scene from the kabuki play 'Heike Nyogo ga shima'. The kabuki actor Iwai Hanshiro V (Tojaku) (right) as the daughter Chidori standing on the shore, Otani Mansaka (Tomoemon V) as Se-no-o Taro and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Tanzaemon, both on standing on a ship in the background (left); Sawamura Tossho (Sojuro V) (right) as Shunkan leaning onto a staff, whilst small birds fly overhead.
