- Curator's comments
- This promotional booklet was designed by Hara Hiromu (1903-1986). It includes contributions by Koishi Kiyoshi, Kimura Ihei, Watanabe Yoshio, and Horino Masao. The cover is decorated with a famous photo-montage that incorporates iconic images (Fuji, the Inland Sea, Geishas, the Kamakura Daibutsu etc.) in an unconventional and modernist way. This montage represents one of the highpoints of the shinko shashin movement. It combines photographs by Kimura, Watanabe, and Koishi, and was originally produced by Hara as a large wall-panel to be exhibited in the Japanese pavilion of the Paris World Fair in 1937. It is unclear whether the present pamphlet was distributed during the Expo. Very rare. (Titus Boeder, 4/2007)
