Scholar-graduate's hat button (insignia) made of baitong (paktong), or "white metal alloy", with a silver bird at the top and amber-coloured glass stone in the central section.

- The bird indicates that the wearer had achieved a Shengyuan degree in the first level Provincial examinations. If he had achieved the Juren degree in the Metropolitan examinations, the bird would be gilded.
