- Curator's comments
- Comparative items of painted wood have been recorded from Tibet. It probably has a similar function to the painted wooden ransom strip (Asia 1948. 7-12. 8) described and illustrated in Zwalf 1981 - "Exorcists performed various ceremonies and offerings included forms of ransom which ranged from......the use of strips of wood on which was painted the figure of a man or woman according to the sex of the afflicted person." p.38.
